Holy vs. Human
As a parent, there are many topics or questions that your kids will ask you that can create some thoughtfulness in your response…
… like, “Why do I have to go to school?”, or, “Why do I always have to eat my vegetables before my ice cream?” And then you get the questions that can create a bit of hesitation, like, “Where do babies come from?“
If you have had a child ask you that question it usually leads to: “Go ask your other parent…”, or, “Let’s chat about that when you are a bit older….” Anything to give some relief to what feels like a life-changing question.
Isn’t it wonderful that God does not live in hesitation when we come to him with our big questions and decisions.
As we make life-changing decisions throughout our life in regard to who we are and choices we will make, His truth is evident.
God’s design of who He created us to be AND how we are to live is so clear and beautiful.
Because His dedication to who we are…. began at the start.
Psalm 139:13-14 reads….
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
- Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT)
Oh God, how do we thank You for how precise You were in creating each of us. Can one even imagine the patience and tenderness that went into each of our unique beings?
We have all been created to find our special gifts and talents, and then look for opportunities to use them.
But this gift of life goes deeper, God, as You created each of us with a depth and a myriad of emotions, needs, and wants. We all encompass a strong desire to be loved and to give love.
Our heart, and what it holds, can change the world depending on how we use it. But letting our flesh override the design You have created can lead to heartache, loneliness, and shame.
God, You gave us free will, and with that, the ability to choose between
good and evil,
right and wrong,
and true intimacy over transient feelings.
How we show this intimate love we each hold, represents YOU and has lasting impact.
In a world that tries to paint intimacy as an opportunity, God help us to seek You, and Your will WHICH will allow us to express love in ways that honor You.
As we read in 2 Corinthians 7, verse 1:
Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
- 2 Corinthians 7:1
What better way to thank You for the effort You put forth in how You created us then by honoring You in every aspect of our life.
You created us as holy beings, not perfect, but striving to live a life that exemplifies who You are.
There is no doubt that the temptation to listen to temporary desires can be overwhelming and misleading. But you have a clear and well-defined path.
My prayer, God, is that You will help us to choose holiness over human desires.
When we struggle with making intimate choices – and we will – may we come to You, ask the tough questions, meditate on Your Word, and make choices that will honor and glorify You.
God, You are holy, and though we are human, let our intimate relationship with You guide how we act in our relationships with those around us.
